How Do I Get a Domain?
For those in need of a website address
Every website should have a unique, memorable domain name. A domain name, or just domain, is the address that people use to visit your site, like “barista.com,” “google.com,” or “twitter.com.”
Domains are registered annually and must be renewed for you to retain ownership. To get a domain for your website, you have to register it with an online domain name registrar. Registration typically costs around $10-15 per year, though some domains might cost more. To get started:
- Visit a domain registrar. See below for a list of recommended domain name registrars.
- Search for your desired domain. If it is unavailable, you’ll have to pick a different domain or choose a different domain extension (.com, .net, .org, etc.); for example, if “example.com” is unavailable, you may be able to register “example.net” instead.
- Follow the process for registering the domain. You can typically choose to pay for one or more years of registration, after which time you must renew your registration or it will expire.
Once you’ve registered your domain name, see How To Edit Your Domain’s DNS A Record for information on how to set it up with your website hosted on Barista hosting.#
